Long story short - I had a dream about a black t-shirt with the word "black' all over it and when I woke up I had Christian lyrics in my mind. This prompted the desire to make Christian apparel. I have always been inspired by the mustard seed parables...it was my father's go to sermon growing up. So when I put "black" and "mustard seed" in a google search I learned something surprising that became the driving vision and name for this brand. Theologians believe Jesus likely spoke of the "black mustard seed" compared to white, yellow or brown because of where and how the black mustard plant grows. We use a low waste approach. We use third party suppliers that make each order on-demand after your order is placed. Unlike traditional clothing companies, we don't produce more clothing than needed so we generate less waste. This also gives BMS, in our early stage, a low risk opportunity to be more creative and better gauge what designs are the most desired. This means it takes longer for some orders to be delivered but on average it should take 5 business days to make and 5 business days for delivery in the USA. As BMS grows, we will invest in local and in-house manufacturing to reduce shipping time while keeping great quality.
Exact design colors are impossible to guarantee as every computer screen and phone displays colors differently.
Products are mostly manufactured and shipped from the US. Some are manufactured in Europe and Mexico. The suppliers we use bulk import raw materials or blank items from all over like the Dominican Republic and Asia.
We aren't completely there yet. All inks for non-all over print designs are water-based and eco-friendly. We look to invest in more eco-friendly packaging and products in the future.
When unpacking a new shirt or hoodie with a direct-to-garment (DTG) print, you might notice a vinegar-like smell or an off-white residue. Don't worry, that's not unusual - it's from a fixation agent applied during the printing process and it's not permanent.
Fixation agent (sometimes known as pre-treatment) is used for all DTG prints across the industry. It helps the ink bond with the fabric, and without it, the ink would flake off the garment.
The solution is simply to wash the garment. Neither the residue nor the smell is permanent and both should go away after one wash. If the discoloration is expected to be noticeable, the quality control team will include a card explaining that it's from the fixation agent.
We hope to have a more convenient solution when we can afford to manufacture in-house.
We recommend machine washing in cold water with like colors. Tumble dry low, but hang dry works best. Do not bleach. You shouldn't use any fabric softeners, or dry-clean the items.
Turn your apparel inside out before washing to preserve the life of your graphic.
When it comes to ironing, use cool iron inside-out. Do not iron the print.
Loose ends are completely normal on any shirt. We do not recommend cutting them! Try knotting them instead and any extra string past the knot can be cut off safely. Use could also use a clear quick dry fabric glue.
The best way to clean your caps is to hand-wash them instead of placing them in a washing machine. This will help with retaining their shape and won't diminish the quality of the embroidered design.
We recommend you wash them with a mild detergent (not bleach), in lukewarm water. If there are any spots that require more attention, then you can use a brush with soft bristles.
